Extremists Kill 9 Christians at Funeral

On Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, Islamists attacked a Christian funeral procession in Karak, Jordan, killing 9 and wounding 40, many of whom remain hospitalized. “This attack has deeply shocked the people of Jordan, especially the Christian community,” said a longtime front-line worker. “Among the injured are fellow believers, ministry workers and members of families we personally know. This makes the tragedy especially painful and close to our hearts.” The worker requested prayer for all who are grieving, for physical and emotional healing for the injured, for protection for churches, and for faith to prevail over fear. He added that when Jordan’s King Abdullah visited survivors receiving medical treatment, one courageous Christian told him, “This is our land. We will never leave.”

Christians Face Economic, Civil and Societal Opposition

In this majority-Muslim country, Christians face opposition in several significant ways. Christians make up around 25% of Chad’s population, but the Muslim-dominated government prohibits Christians from owning gas stations and many other businesses. Lack of economic opportunities causes some Christians to convert to Islam. “One influential politician converted to Islam and is now offering a motorcycle to every new convert from Christianity in his town,” said a pastor. He added that the court system in a country that is nearly 60% Muslim also discriminates against Christians. Christians are also violently persecuted by the 15% of Chadians who practice African traditional religions. A church and a pastor’s home were burned, and a front-line worker said that kind of attack happens nearly every year during cultic initiation rituals. Chadian church leaders ask for prayer that local churches will work together to face these challenges.

Christian Families Struggle After Violent Attack

Six Christian families in northeast India face hardships in the wake of a violent attack and legal action taken against their church in September 2024. They have encountered mounting pressures as their community has ostracized and opposed them, they have been restricted from cultivating their own land freely, and they have been denied opportunities to work as day laborers. These obstacles have created financial pressure and uncertainty about how to provide for their families. However, they remain steadfast in their faith, meeting regularly in their house church to worship and encourage one another. They shared three specific prayer requests: that their persecutors will come to follow Jesus, that the ongoing threats against them will stop, and that their court case will be resolved fairly. When asked how they feel about those who attacked them, one leader said, “We love them and have forgiven them from our hearts.”
