Pastor Behnam Irani, who has suffered complications as a result of stomach ulcers and intestinal problems, underwent surgery on Feb. 22 at Shahid Madani Hospital in Karaj. The surgery was said to be successful, and the pastor is doing well. He was scheduled to return to prison on Feb. 26. When the pastor first began serving his six-year prison term in May 2011, he was subjected to sleep deprivation and physical torture. Prison officials were said to have ordered daily beatings even though he was already in poor health and suffered from bleeding stomach ulcers. Despite his poor health, he is in good spirits. His wife, 12-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son miss him very much and are concerned for his physical well-being.
