Forty-eight students and a teacher were killed on Nov. 10 when a suicide bomber posing as a student detonated an explosive device in Potiskum, Yobe state, Nigeria. The attacker detonated the bomb at about 7:30 a.m., shortly after students at the Government Comprehensive Senior Science Secondary School had gathered for an assembly. In addition to the 49 killed, 79 others were seriously injured. This is the fifth attack in less than a year on government-run schools in Yobe state. Boko Haram is thought to be responsible for the attack; the Islamist group views all western-style schools as being aligned with Christianity.
